When I am designing the collection, I try to imagine my customer wearing it, laughing with friends or celebrating with family. Who is she and what will make her feel her most fabulous? There is a process in bringing the design to life called ‘the fitting’. A special model who has the most common measurements according to demographic. This is a different kind of model than a fashion model. When I am designing an outfit or a dress for a Mother of the Bride, I ‘fit’ it on my favorite fit model Lisa, who is middle aged, has a ‘real’ body, 40 years of knowledge on how to achieve the best fit, and the most beautiful spirit! We work to get the garment to look and feel as good as it can possibly be while she wears it. Does the armhole allow for dancing with your arms up? Is the slit the right length so when you sit down it exposes the exact right amount of leg? When I design an outfit I imagine on a younger woman as a guest of a wedding, I will fit on a model with a younger body. This comes with its own set of questions to ask. It is these answers that guarantee when you wear our collection, you are your very most fabulous, beautiful and comfortable self.
